Thuongmai University Holds Ceremony to Announce Decisions and Award Quality Accreditation Certificates for 06 Master's Programs and UPM Star Rating Certificates for 05 Undergraduate Programs

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Toan - Deputy Director, Chairman of the Education Quality Accreditation Council, Center for Education Accreditation - Vietnam National University, Hanoi; and Dr. Hoang Thi Xuan Hoa - Director of the UPM Institute for Innovation.

Representing Thuongmai University, the attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huu Duc – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, President of Thuongmai University; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Viet – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of Thuongmai University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Van Su – Vice President of Thuongmai University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Nhuuan - Vice President of Thuongmai University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Thai – Chairman of the University Trade Union; Dr. Phan Thu Trang – Secretary of the Youth Union; MA. Nguyen Binh Minh – Chairman of the University Veterans' Association; along with all officials and staff of Thuongmai University.

Established in 1960, Thuongmai University, throughout its 65-year history of construction and development, has always prioritized its reputation, quality, and position as a leading university in economics, finance, and trade services.

Accreditation and ranking activities have had a clear, positive impact on quality assurance efforts throughout the University. To date, Thuongmai University has achieved institutional-level accreditation three times, and 27 academic programs have been accredited (including 18 undergraduate programs and 06 Master's programs meeting domestic standards, and 03 programs meeting international standards).

Starting in October 2024, the University initiated the self-assessment of 06 application-oriented Master's programs: Business Administration, Commercial Business (Commercial Marketing), Accounting, Economic Management, Finance-Banking, and Human Resource Management. In June 2025, the University, in collaboration with the VNU-Hanoi Center for Education Accreditation, successfully underwent external assessment and received quality accreditation for these 06 programs.

During the recent accreditation process, the external expert panel, with its serious, objective, transparent, and effective working spirit, provided the University with a comprehensive and thorough overview of its current quality status. This process has enabled the University to draw valuable lessons from the experts in building, managing, and organizing training, scientific research, and community service in a professional, scientific manner, adhering to the current regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and approaching regional and international standards.

Concurrently, on November 3, 2025, the UPM Institute for Innovation (under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations) announced the program-level benchmarking results according to the UPM standards, which consist of 7 standards and 44 criteria. This is a benchmarking system for educational excellence with participation from over 150 institutions and programs from 12 countries and territories: Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States participating in the UPM ranking.

According to the results, 05 programs of Thuongmai University—Hotel Management, Tourism and Travel Service Management, Commercial Finance-Banking, Public Finance, and Corporate Human Resource Management—were assessed and recognized with a 5-star rating in the application-oriented category. In 2024, the University also had 03 programs receive 5-star certification, bringing the total number of 5-star programs to 08.

Additionally, the University achieved a Top 2 ranking among Economics and Finance universities; placed in the Top 12 in the Vietnam's University Rankings (VNUR-2025); and entered the Top 40 Vietnamese Universities in the Webometrics 2025 ranking.

Thuongmai University is also one of 16 Vietnamese universities included in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2025.  THE Impact Ranking 2025

Furthermore, the University is one of 25 Vietnamese universities ranked in the QS Asia University Rankings published for 2026.  QS ranking 2026

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Thuongmai University, stated that based on these achievements, the University will systematically review all its activities. It will soon develop an action plan and allocate sufficient resources to overcome remaining limitations with the highest effort, demonstrating a strong determination to uphold its quality commitments and fully operate the internal quality assurance system.

The President also affirmed that the University will continue to make breakthroughs in brand development, institutional restructuring, digital transformation, talent acquisition and development, and human resource internationalization. It will strongly promote innovation to continuously enhance the quality of education, integrating and meeting regional and global higher education standards. This fulfills the mission "To train high-quality, high-level human resources with entrepreneurial and innovative capabilities, competitive in domestic and international labor markets; conduct scientific research, policy consultation, and knowledge transfer in modern economics and commerce, contributing to the prosperity and advancing the position of Vietnam."

The ceremony concluded successfully, marking a new milestone in Thuongmai University's development. It serves as a foundation and motivation for the University to declare and realize its vision and mission of becoming a multidisciplinary, innovation-oriented university, fostering integration and sustainable development within the Asian region.
